Hot off the press!

I am proud to share with you all the report released by EOHHS regarding the Special Commission on Unaccompanied Homeless Youth, which was formed based on my legislation that was passed last year.  I was appointed as one of four legislators to lead this Commission which has been working hard over the past year and half to formulate the best practices to deal with this ongoing and pervasive issue.

The Commission worked on this issue from a variety of angles including: discovering the current existing barriers to services for youth under 18, recognizing what practices are being effectively utilized right now and how they can be used as a model on a larger scale, learning how to identify and connect with this population, and a specific emphasis on LGBTQ youth whose rates of homelessness are much higher than that of their peers in the same age group.

This is the beginning of many reports from the ongoing Commission, and I am hopeful that this report and its findings will encourage the legislature to fund our Commission in the FY2014 budget.
